Artist Statement
I let my imagination illustrate.
My artwork is currently about real and imagined landscapes. I employ the use of color and forms to soothe and capture the viewer. Each artwork is also an index of my thoughts and emotions: an embrace of watercolor’s unique flow and my intuitive reaction to those properties. Interactions of purples, yellows, blues, oranges, and greens spread out in decisive horizontal strokes and pops of saturated color. My goal is to create a visual playground that sparks otherworldly imagination and wonder.
I hope for my art to take the viewer out of reality for a moment and allow them a space to visually explore and ponder the unique way their own mind fills in the gaps between abstraction and representation. These paintings are also an expression of myself and where I find myself internally and externally. This goal and process, integrated with my interest in animals, goodness, iridescence, and colors and form within nature, amalgamize into glimpses of my psyche and joy in the physical creative process.
In many of my paintings, I capture moments and places where I felt free, known, or just excited about life. The abstraction of those scenes and colors are arranged on the surface as they are in my mind, as a swirl of thoughts and moments. An extraction of the excitement, recognition, and illustration of my soul. It is my hope that the viewer will discover their own sense of being known when looking at my work. A deep and wonderful feeling, beyond words, and special for each individual, yet universally experienced-belonging in the midst of chaos. My artwork is a quest to capture that experience on a two-dimensional surface and open the door to further exploration.
